Choosing A Location For Your Rainwater Tank and Pump
Below are some tips for what to consider when choosing a location for your rainwater tank:
-
Think of all the areas around your house and garden where most of the water will be used.
-
If the rainwater tank does not fit in your preferred location, consider placing it elsewhere or select a different shape or size. Remember, you can choose a style, one of over 17 colours or material to suit such as Poly, Metal-Aquaplate and Concrete. Just ask, we are happy to give you suggestions, including what features and benefits would work best for your circumstances, building, budget etc.
-
Review the existing down-pipe location to ensure the best chance of catching water is obtained. It is always best to always place your new tank nearest to the closest downpipe and storm water line to reduce install costs.
-
Be sure to check local Government setback conditions and a chance of relaxation on those conditions before shopping. Some Councils make life very difficult and sometimes it will cost more to place the tank where it is best suited. Review the Consumer Compliance Checklist for more information.
-
Consider your neighbours, ensuring your tank will not block their natural light, ventilation, outlook or detract from the street scape.
-
If you want to install a pump, make sure it is located in a place where the noise will not irritate your family or neighbours. Always consider purchasing a pump cover to abate noise, but more so to help with the longevity of the pump's lifespan regardless of manufacturer. It is always best to protect your pump from harsh conditions and inclement weather because protecting it will prolong the pump's usable life span by many years.
-
Consider access to the tank and your home for maintenance purposes.
-
Building regulations may limit where you can locate a rainwater tank on your property in relation to the front, side and rear boundaries. Check with your Local Government rules and regulations.
-
Reduced rear and side boundary clearances will apply for narrow blocks and height restrictions may apply for corner blocks.
-
Be aware of the stress that might be placed on retaining walls, house walls, pipe work and so on, caused by locating a rainwater tank beside, over top etc.
